The Quilter's Trug by Brenda Walker
I won't say these have been easy to make as I have certainly had a few "moments" during the making but I'm thrilled with the results.
They are made with linen and Craf-Tex to give them stability. As ever, my measuring and cutting out left something to be desired (will I ever learn?) and before I had even got the fabric out I had had to call the shop that I had bought the kit from because I thought I was missing a piece of the pattern (I wasn't but I'm apparently not the only one to have asked). Still, no pain, no gain - and my fingers are killing me from passing the needle through all the layers! According to the pattern, there should be a padded heart on each side at the join with the handle but I wasn't pleased with how they turned out so I opted for a button - who doesn't love a button?
I will be linking up with Handmade Monday as usual (http://handmadeharbour.blogspot.co.uk/). Thank you all for your lovely comments last week. I shall enjoy sitting on the patio reading through everyone's blogs - hurrah that we finally have the weather to do so!
Love Natalie
I've not heard of Craf-Tex - is it an interfacing type of stiffener?
ReplyDeleteThe trugs look great, and I do love a button!
Yes it is. I was told by one fabric company that Vilene would do the job and they happily sold me a metre of it but when my husband finally tracked down the real deal on the internet, they are not the same thing at all!
DeleteI can understand the 'moments' you had, but the trugs are fabulous. I am sure there are lots of uses for them and one that springs to my mind is how great they would be for displaying small items at craft fairs. Hope you have a good week.
ReplyDeleteOh my word, I do love those trugs! Enjoy that weather - it's not quite patio weather here - it's not too bad but some very threatening dark clouds are hanging around.
ReplyDeleteThose 'trugs' are lovely. No pain no gain eh!I wonder what you are going to put in them.
ReplyDeleteThese are the cutest little pair of trugs. Great job. I think the buttons look great on them!
ReplyDeleteI love your trugs. I can sympathise with you trying to get a needle through several layers.
ReplyDeleteI can imagine the pain caused by pushing the needle through the layers. It was worth it however. The buttons look lovely and finish them off really well in a nice clean way.
ReplyDeleteThe trugs look super. There is something just great about trugs. Just the word alone.
ReplyDeleteWhy are they called 'quilter's' trugs? Are they for storing quilts? They are very nice - I am a quilter - do I need a trug?!!
ReplyDeleteooh these are gorgeous! you've really done an amazing job, i'm not sure i'd attempt them... they look tricky! x
ReplyDeleteWhat a clever idea and they look so sturdy. I can just imagine them being filled with flowers from the garden.
ReplyDeleteThey look great Natalie! Interfacing is still a bit of a mystery to me so the discussion after this post was very useful for me. x
ReplyDeleteSo lovely. Well done
ReplyDeleteWoW! well done they are beautiful !
ReplyDeleteLove the buttons - good call !

I can imagine these filled with lovely bits and pieces to sell at a craft fair. You can see how hard you've worked and they look fantastic.
ReplyDeleteI've never seen quilted trugs before. They're gorgeous. The fabric is lovely.
ReplyDeleteI suffer from sore fingers too when I'm quilting and as I can't use a thimble I put plasters on them. It works a treat xx
They are wonderful! What a fantastic project! I absolutely love the fabrics you used on them! Well done. Be proud of yourself.x
ReplyDeleteI love the trugs - I've got so many places I could put one! Thanks for your comment.

Those are lovely! I have never heard of a trug. Sorry for your sore fingers, but the results were well worth it! Who doesn't love a button?
